John Robert Lewis was born near Troy, Alabama in 1940. On July 17, 2020, he
died at the age of 80. In the years between his birth and death, John Lewis
made significant contributions to the American Civil Rights Movement, to
the city of Atlanta, Georgia, and to people throughout the country—Lewis
served 17 terms in the United States House of Representatives.
