[Ag-eq] anyone out there

Hi Lauri,
That's wonderful about the syrup! We lost one of our peach trees due to the
deer using it to rake their antlers on.
Matt has just found a new love of Muscidine grapes. A neighbor across the
road let us have the final pickings from his two vines and he made wine from
about five gallons of grapes and my sister and I made the most wonderful
preserves I have ever had out of about two gallons of grapes. The cabin
smelt like the Welches jelly factory exploded in my kitchen.
So, needless to say, we've just planted six vines of three different
variaties and this does not include about forty cuttings he has taken from
the neighbor's vines. They will have to go in nursery beds for about two
years and then they will go out in the larger field. I think he is also
going to plant 20 dew berry vines and we may try Huckle Berries again as
well. I'm nudging him away from blackberries because we have so many wild
ones around that it would be an extreme problem to keep them apart because
of the wild birds. We have two other neighbors that grow blackberries and
they share as well. Strawberries will be planted this fall, but not too
many. There is a large pick your own field around the corner and that
farmer sends me a lot that aren't market quality, but they do just fine for
my jams and Matt's wine.
