Nella,

Okra can make your skin itch or irratated because there are very fine hairs 
or prickles on them.  I have wiped them off with gloved hands, but throwing 
them in a sink of cold water before doing anything with them will fix that. 
Just wash your ichy hands and put lotion on them.
