Jody:

I'm not sure, but it seems like most of the chicks are offered in the early
spring. Our local feed stores always have them in the spring and early summer
and not the rest of the year. The hatcheries may have them year round, but I'm
not sure.

The chicks will be a few days old and up. I've never purchased tiny chicks
because I don't have a good place to keep them. They need a warm safe place,
probably indoors or at least a heat lamp. The newly hatched chicks make me
nervous; they seem so fragile.

Some how the hatcheries are able to sex them, so you can know if you're getting
pullets or roosters.

The prices seem to vary a lot with age and breed. The tiny new chicks may be as
little as a couple of dollars and they go up. The older the chick to more it
costs. I paid $5 for some that were 8 weeks old and $12 for some that had just
started laying. I'm sure prices vary in different parts of the country.
