Hi y'all.
My name is Tracy, and I joined this list a couple weeks ago. I went to the
Ag-Eq meetings at convention in Philly and Louisville, quite some time ago
now, but the meetings were very interesting and the people were great, so
here I am.
I grew up in Montana, but now I live in a town in northern New Jersey, not
far from New York City. My inner farmer has to be satisfied with a garden
and some dwarf fruit trees.
I envy those of you who are already getting a harvest! Here, I reckon it'll
be another 6-7 weeks until last frost. I'm just starting my cold-tolerant
plants inside, like broccoli and cabbage. I have to set up the cold frame,
so I can start some lettuce and peas. And fava beans, which like the cold
and are very tasty.

I'm jealous of people's chickens, too. I think it would be fun to have
chickens, but I'd end up running an old-age home for senior chickens in the
end. I read some towns in Jersey are allowing some chickens, but haven't
researched if my town is one of them.

I'd love to live somewhere more spread-out, but don't see how a blind person
could really manage it, not being able to drive. My sister and I inherited
40 acres from our parents, but it's 20 miles to the grocery store, and I'm
not sure the local taxi would come out of town. I'd be like my homesteading
ancestors, pretty much on the farm all the time, and I'm not up to that.
So, if people have strategies for a blind person in a rural area, with no
live-in driver, I'd be interested to hear about it.
Nice to be here!
Tracy
