[Ag-eq] Grapes

Hi Nella,

Our grapes are muscadine grapes. We have three verieties, two of each three
types. They are native to the United States, most varieties are rather
large, thick skins and large seeds. Their colors can range from deep
purple, bronze to a pale green. Some people eat the thick peels, but most
people just toss them away. We use them for wine, jelly and preserves. The
process for all three call for the grape hulls to be used. The wine and
jelly process discard the hulls, but with the preserves, you slice them up
thin and they are part of the preserves. When we are cooking them, the
whole house smells like the welches grape factory exploded in my kitchen! I
sure hope we get more grapes this year. I want to make more jelly and
preserves and try making a grape hull pie.
