Subject: [Ag-eq] Theft of bull semen

Theft of bull semen investigated in Augusta, Virginia. AUGUSTA The Augusta
County Sheriff's Office is investigating an unusual theft: $250 worth of
bull semen. Authorities said Tuesday 10 containers of the semen were
reported missing from Mount Solon, which is located about halfway between
Staunton and Harrisonburg. They were stolen from a barn. Jean Schofield is
with the North American Breeders Inc., a semen collection center in
Berryville. She said if the semen wasn't stored in liquid nitrogen, it's
probably worthless. Schofield said bull semen is used to selectively breed
specific traits. High-quality bull semen can fetch as much as $400 to $500.
