Years ago, my brother, sister and eventually I wanted goats. Caleb and Kelly
got 2 kids each. An Alpine and an Alpine cross a peace. Kelly's Alpine had
the goat's equivalents to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), the first
night; and Caleb's Alpine strangled itself. So then we had Flopsey--a Nubian
X Alpine cross, and Mercedes--a LaMancha X Alpine cross.
Mercedes and Flopsey, along with Hamlet the pig, who we all raised from
bottle babies, made quite a trio, respecting no fences, stopping traffic,
and eating the sweet corn right from our road-side stand. Hammy went to the
big pasture in the sky that fall, so we told Kelly, (grinning evilly face),
and the girls went to a neighbor's place with a breeding buck. We liked the
pure-bred Nubian kids so much, and mom and dad already had goats, so why not
more. So in addition to breeding our own does, we took home two Nubian kids,
Coca and Skipper--this time I got a goat. Well Mercedes had twins, but
Flopsey only pretended to be pregnant. She actually uttered up, but started
to un-udder eventually.
So Flopsey went to visit/live with Hammy. Skipper was my project. He was
going to be my harnessed pulling weather. Skipper had other plans however,
and chewed everything, including his master's arm. That was the final straw,
and Skipper went to visit Hammy too. Anyone seeing a pattern here?
(Demonically grinning face)
So now we had Mercedes = alpha doe, and Coca = subordinate doe. We bred them
again. This time Coca has 2 adorable twin buckling's, and Mercedes has 3
terrible triplets. We never milked the does. Eventually Caleb and Kelly
decided goats weren't as much fun as cows and Grampa took them to live at
his place. No not to visit Hammy, but to live at Grampa's farm.
And that is my goat story.
Zac

Jewel:
All my goats have candy names. There's Lollipop, Carmel, Skittles, Tootsie
Roll
and Necco. I used to have Jellybean, who was Necco's mother. They were my
original goats; they are Toggenbergs. Jellybean died a couple of years ago,
she was very old. The rest are all Nubians.
