So, today I went to look at a mini mule. I've been wanting to get one to be a
friend for Cruiser. The mule was owned by an elderly man who doesn't live far
from me. He told me that the mule was halter trained, but could be hard to
catch. The little mule was running in a pasture with several full sized horses
and mules.
They had him caught so I could look at him and he was a little shy, but I liked
him. I thought He seemed very healthy and more reserved rather than
frightened. This is very common for mules. I thought if I brought him home
and put him in a stall I could get him used to me and he needed more work on
the halter.
I told the man I would like to buy him. The man said I didn't realize you were
blind and I don't think he would be good for you. I asked him why he thought
that and he said I don't want you to get hurt. I told him that I've owned 3
full sized mules and 3 horses and am very comfortable with them on the ground.
The mule wasn't very big, not much larger than my goats. The man refused to
sell the mule to me. He said he could find me a nice donkey; he didn't think a
mule would be good for me. I told him that I was capable of finding my own
animals and that I didn't appreciate him deciding what was right for me. I
told him that I had a lot of experience with blindness and quite a lot of
experience with mules. He still refused to sell the mule, what an ass.
It's so frustrating; I thought I had found my mini mule and was all excited. If
it was a full sized mule that I wanted to ride it would be different, I would
still be pissed off, but could understand it more. It's his mule and he has
the right to sell it to whom he likes, but I'm sure if I hadn't been blind he
would have happily took my money.
Well, just wanted to vent. I think only another blind person can truly
understand my frustration.
