I'm so depressed.  I had a beautiful tomato coming along.  I could
practically taste it.  And, when I went to check it today to see if it was
ripe yet, it had disappeared, no doubt into the maw of some critter.
They've eaten nearly everything, and destroyed most of my flowers as well.
I expect my neighbors would complain if I started using a shotgun.  Or got a
terrier and left him outside all the time to hunt varmints, his ancient job.
I'd kill the darn things with my bare hands, if I could catch them.
