Today, an Ausie tourist had a face-to-face personal meeting with a small pod of Orca off the
Corremandel Peninsula which is part of Auckland's east coast Hauraki Gulf.
This very fortunate woman was swimming just beyond the breakers, when she was surrounded by several
adult Orcas and a couple of youngsters.
At no time was she in any danger as wild orca have never been known to attack, or molest a human.
The warning is that you never approach nearer than 150 metres to a marine mammal, but when said
marine mammal chooses, of its own free will, to approach a human, * much much closer than that, what
can one do but enjoy and make the most of the encounter!
The lady said that the experience was better than winning Lotto!
