Jewel and the clever fig!
My figs don't hang in bunches. They grow along the branch and start where a
leaf also comes out, so they're between the leaf stem and the branch. I
guess different kinds do different things.

An American friend sent me an articlep on figs and when to pick them.
It spoke of them as hanging in bunches from the branches, but my little
plant has only tiny branches
each with one leaf on it, so the fig was faced with a decision. As it had
no companions, hanging in
bunches was not an alternative, and if it was to hang anywhere, which of the
two tiny branches
should it choose?
To resolve this mind-stretching conundrum,, the fig made a decision, it
would not * hang from the
underside of a branch, but would perch itself on top of and , exactly, half
way between each of the
two diminutive branches!
