What about boarding dogs in your own home.  I've boarded dogs in my home for people in the past.  I could only take 1 or 2 at a time, but it gave me some extra money when I was in school.  I developed some loyal clients who wanted their dogs to be in a home rather than a large boarding facility.

I also like Tracy's idea of pet massage.

I fear I might have a hard time convincing strangers to let me as a complete stranger look after their animals. I only have two close friends with dogs but of course neither of them live within walking distance; I don't truly know anyone who lives within walking distance who has pets (guess there's our neighbour across the street but I'm guessing they take their dog to daycare during the week because he's rather vocal and I never hear him during the day which is a good thing). If I could convince people then I would seriously consider it but I just worry about how that'd go (pet sitting in particular since I'd be a stranger going into another stranger's house though I'd never do anything but they don't know that).
