Hello Federation family!

 

I'm writing to share the amazing news that SB 1505 was signed into law by
Governor Hobbs on May 2nd, 2025.

 

This law has updated our Braille standard from Literary Braille to Unified
English Braille.  In addition, it mandates that all Teachers of blind
students must be certified through the National Certification in English
Braille(NCUEB) or comparable University level exam through the teacher
preparation programs.  

 

This has been many years in the making.  Thanks to all of you who told your
stories and contacted your elected officials.   

 

We are still waiting for the budget process that we believe will integrate
SB 1130 with the increased funding for the Independent Living Blind program.


 

We'll update you as soon as we have more information.
