From jeharlan at indiana.edu Tue Apr 4 14:31:36 2017 From: jeharlan at indiana.edu (Harlan-Simmons, Jane E.) Date: Tue, 4 Apr 2017 14:31:36 +0000 Subject: [Art_beyond_sight_educators] ideas for individual creative activities Message-ID: <2d20b311c75040f88b834cfedfc7162c@IN-CCI-EXCH07.ads.iu.edu> Hello, We have received an information request that I would like to get your help in answering. A woman with limited sight, no computer, and limited transportation called us and asked for ideas for "creative activities" she can do. She lives in a large house in a small town here in Indiana with no bus or taxi service. She says getting to some place where she could buy supplies might be difficult. She says she is isolated, and that sounds more than accurate. Sharon has a degree in painting and printmaking from an era in her life when she had her sight. She is interested in any kind of arts, however, not just visual. So creative writing or music would be possibilities for her as well. Does anyone have some suggestions for her? Sounds like she may lack the "community and inspirations" to continue to be creative. For my grandmother who during her lifetime was an artist and lost her sight the Hadley School for the Blind offered correspondence courses with terrific instructors. They have music and writing etc. They even reached out to art beyond sight and offer the Art of Ancient Egypt that has tactile diagrams and verbal descriptions that we co-published with the American Printing House for the Blind. I saw Hadley nurture my grandmother's individuality and I've seen her experience to be the norm for Hadley students who I know The other reconnection is to go the national federation for the blind national convention in July. The community, the creativity, the passion and sharing about life, hobbies, artistry is just there. Glad to put you in touch w point people for either group off line Best, > On Apr 4, 2017, at 10:31 AM, Harlan-Simmons, Jane E. via Art_beyond_sight_educators wrote: > > Hello, > We have received an information request that I would like to get your help in answering.
