Dear Friend,

Please could you forward this information to anyone you know who may be
interested.

The National Portrait Gallery offers free picture descriptions called
'Visualising Portraits' for Blind and Partially Sighted Visitors on the
last Thursday of each month from 2 to 3.30 pm.

Discover the fascinating stories behind the portraits and listen to
detailed verbal description of the works.

Each session is led by one of the gallery's experienced describers and
takes place in the gallery, seated in front of the painting.
Large-scale images and tactile resources are available for all, and
sighted escorts and guide dogs are very welcome.

Here are the subjects for our next four sessions:

28 May 14.00-15.30 Samuel Pepys - the famous
17th Century London diarist

25 June 14.00-15.30 Mary Seacole - celebrated
19th century Crimean War nurse

30 July 14.00-15.30 T.S. Eliot - Nobel Prize
winning writer

27 August 14.00-15.30 William Blake - visionary poet
and painter

The sessions are free and to book a place please contact the Access and
Outreach Assistant on 020 7306 0055 ext 387 or e-mail
outreach at npg.org.uk. Please meet by the Information Desk in the Main
Hall on the day at 2pm.

Free Touch Tours in the gallery are also available on request and
include works from three of our most popular galleries - the Victorian,
the Early and the Late Twentieth century galleries. For more information
or to book a touch tour please contact the Access and Outreach Assistant
on 020 7306 0055 ext 387 or e-mail outreach at npg.org.uk, giving a minimum
of three weeks notice. The tours are free and individuals and groups are
both welcome.

The National Portrait Gallery can also offer practical workshops for
blind and partially sighted groups - if this is something you would be
interested in then please contact the Access and Outreach Assistant on
020 7306 0055 ext 387 or e-mail outreach at npg.org.uk.
