Subject: [Artbeyondsightmuseums] designing tactile- visual graphics -
Hi,
I've got a question about designing tactile and visual graphics together. By tactile-visual graphics I mean tactile graphics with visual (print) information.
I've been doing this for many years but I would like to hear what you think if you also design tactile-visual graphics, and also if you don't but have thoughts about it.
Basically this is how I design:
1. Use a visual graphic as source material - to start the tactile design
2. Once basic tactile design is down erase the original visual information and try to make sure the tactile is very legible. I feel that if the original visual is there I get "tricked" as to the legibility. That is why I remove it so to evaluate the tactile better.
3. To the tactile graphic add visual information to make it accessible for the sighted. This visual information is different than the original visual source.
Note: since a visual graphic is often many layers of information, a tactile can result in pages of tactile information. That is perhaps one reason why not to re-insert the original visual information onto the tactile.
What do you think? What is your experience?
Thanks,
Lisa
