Facebook Helps Blind People “See” Photos With AI

Facebook rolled out a new accessibility feature to help the blind or
visually impaired people “see” photos on their news feed....

Introducing /automatic alternative text/, it enables Facebook’s AI to
generate description for photos to be read aloud.

“This is possible because of Facebook’s object recognition technology,
which is based on a neural network that has billions of parameters and
is trained with millions of examples,” said Facebook in a blog post
<http://newsroom.fb.com/news/2016/04/using-artificial-intelligence-to-help-blind-people-see-facebook/>.

According to BBC <http://www.bbc.com/news/disability-35881779>,
Facebook’s AI can now recognize over 80 objects and activities.
