thanks, Heather~ When I was teaching, I am the prof. who created this course, Women in the Arts. Therefore, I was very pleased to be asked to participate in it through my exhibition in this way, 6 years later. This course is a Humanities focused option - students read and study a variety of women artists from middle ages to present. They visit art galleries to study women's art, listen to music composed by women, and write a final paper on the woman of their choice - its amazing what the students do with their research project in the end of the course. Then, the students have a couple of days when they give their paper presentation to the class.

I wrote "Muddy Hands" and framed it, and placed it beside a collection of my pottery in the exhibition. The response has been very good - it gives the visitors a better understanding of how we use our hands and minds to bring healing to ourselves - in my case it was my rehabilitation process, to be able to once again make art. The muddy clay was my doorway into wholeness again.

Today, I will visit the exhibition for the first time and see how the gallery director installed the show. I am excited to be going to see how it turned out in that space. Some friends are meeting us there to view it with us today. The friend who will be meeting us used to work for me when I was a museum director - she was the education director - I'll be happy to see her again and to get her view of what the show is like through her eyes.

I hope people get to read your muddy hands poem at the bottom of your attachment. The photos are very good too. I love that you asked open ended questions about how people would place your art within different issues.
  Thanks

Thanks, Heather. I am attaching the invitation and it gives the address for the show at Jameson Hospital, New Castle, PA. That is about 40 minutes north of Pittsburgh, PA - going west towards the Ohio line.

I am also including a little handout I had made for a class from Geneva College that came to study my work as part of their "Women in the Arts" course, a humanities focus course. In the handout I give some specific information to help them see the historic roots of my work, and I give them some questions they can apply to my work in learning more about what they are seeing there.

OH, I forgot to say, there is Braille labeling on all the work in the show, too. We have had a really wonderful turnout for the opening and during the month it was in the first museum. Now, it goes to the Hospital gallery and I think we should have a really good response there, too. In the hospital show, it will be up until July 7th - so people have nearly three months to visit the show.

Thanks again for your interest, Heather. I do appreciate it very much.

thanks for the update - sounds fantastic.
I am currently working with a group in Pittsburgh and will be submitting a proposal to teach a workshop for masters students at a university in the fall. We'll see - they approached me to be part of this event and it sounds right up my alley. I have an extensive art history background and was a former museum executive director before I started my career as a professor of fine arts and humanities at Geneva College. I relish the academic environment.

I am taking this entire week, or really 10 days, completely off from my normal life - no tv, no books, no facebook or other social medium...spending the time resting, relaxing, working on some art, and meditating and being silent.

Thanks for sending this along. I'll bet this next opening is a lot easier on you, at least i hope it is. easier and every bit as successful.

This weekend I had a great time teaching an intro to tactile graphics to college students at the Colorado Center for the Blind. Dr. and Mrs. Maurer even joined us for one of the classes. We had about 25 or 30 students come from around the country. There were also units on astronomy and polymeres. I wish I could have checked out both of those classes too.

          Hello friends,

This is my April update and I have attached an invitation for YOU. The invitation gives you the information on the upcoming exhibition of _Vision and Revision: Two Artists with Limited Sight Loss, Not Limited Vision_ for the Jameson Hospital venue on Wednesday, April 23 from 5 -7 pm.

Another event will be on Saturday, May 17, from 1 - 4 pm. On that afternoon Suzanne Gibson and I come to Jameson Hospital to the exhibition once again. This time, we will set up our adaptive equipment and we'll show our visitors how we make art.

The exhibition is officially open from April 14 through July 7. You can visit it at any time during those weeks it is on display. This is the final showing for this special, unique exhibition. It was scheduled for TWO presentations ONLY - and will never again be offered after July 7th. I hope you will take this opportunity to see the show.

Sales of my work were BRISK at the first venue - March 7th at the Merrick Art Gallery in New Brighton. Attendance was very good for the opening and the follow-up demonstration. I have now add more work to this second exhibition because so many of my pieces sold. That is a "feel good" thing! :)

You can see photos from the first show by visiting my Face Book page.
Go to Face Book, and just type in _River Road Studio_ on the Search Bar and you can read all about the show and see a lot of work there. While visiting the page, please be sure to "LIKE" it and sign up as one of my "FRIENDS" so you get updates on upcoming activites from my studio. THANKS.
