Hi Keri,
I found a little square bucket about 9”  x 12”  and I cut up and taped cardboard dividers to create 8 spaces. I then categorized my pencil into blues, greens, yellows, browns, oranges, reds, purples, and blacks & whites. This works for me as a sighted artist. When I start a new project I select a pallet of between 3 and 12 colors. By limiting the colors I can set a tone for the image and still feel like I have every thing I need to get the picture saying what I have to say. I wonder if with a limited number of colors you could devise a marker system that you could quickly identify. 
I haven’t tried this but what do you think of this idea?
There are pencil toppers that come in a lot of different shapes available. What if you selected 8 to represent the eight color families. Once you have your colors selected for your project you could differentiate two or three of the same color with a bit of masking tape. I imagine I would try 1/2” for the darkest red, 1/4” for the middle tone and none for my lightest red.
Let me know what you think.  I would love to know if it works for you or if this is just ridiculous.
You could switch the toppers out as you switch up your colors. If in your practice you have dozens of colors and you like to use them all on your  projects this sounds too cumbersome.
