Future is here: Metro Atlanta city begins self-driving shuttle service

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Driverless cars and shuttles are the way of the
future. Now you can ride one for free right here in metro Atlanta.

Peachtree Corners has launched a free self-driving shuttle service and
neighbors lined up Tuesday for their chance to ride.

The robotic shuttle system named Olli has room for 10 people to ride and
will operate Monday through Friday.

The driverless bus is part of a technology testing lab and the city's
efforts to reinvent itself to bring in new business. The mayor of Peachtree
Corners said it took a lot of guts for city council to do this.

"They had the vision to have the idea - the courage to vote for it. No
other city anywhere on planet earth has ever done this," Mayor Mike Mason
said.

The autonomous, driverless shuttle system will run in a dedicated lane
along Technology Parkway. The track covers multiple hotels, office space
and restaurants and the shuttle will have seven regular stops.

"You know these driverless cars are coming and it is nice to see one,"
resident Lynne Clifton said.
