[AutonomousVehicles] Waymo Coming to San Antonio!!!

Good evening everyone!!!

 

                It came over our 5 pm news this evening. Waymo will launch in San Antonio sometime next year. This is as much as we know. They didn’t say if Waymo will fly solo or partner with Lyft and Uber as they’re doing in other cities. Given what I’ve heard I hope that we’ll be able to access Waymo via its own app instead of via Lyft and Uber. I’ve heard that the Lyft and Uber Apps lack features of the Waymo App that make using their service much easier for blind passengers. Perhaps we’ll get more details closer to the actual launch.

 

                Sarah Forgani one of our KENS 5 news reporters explained Waymo’s procedure for rolling its service out in new locations. They’ll first send in a fleet of vehicles manned by Waymo Employees to “Map” the city so the Waymo Driver knows how to navigate our streets and highways. Once they’re certain that the Waymo Driver can safely drive vehicles through our city the service will go live for the public. When Waymo goes live Mary and I want to be among the first passengers they transport. I even had a special t-shirt made for the occasion and will wear it on the day we take our first autonomous ride in a Waymo Vehicle with other ARS services to follow. It will be a dream come true one I had since I was a child. What happened to me during my first 3 years in Texas spurs on my willingness to advocate for improved public transportation including the use of autonomous rideshare services.
