Hi,

Thanks for the reminder about the testimony! Please tell us how it goes!

How long will it last? I do not know much about the testimony process. Do they take questions from either the Senators or audience? Is this televised or just on the live stream on the internet?

After you testify, what is the follow up process from the Senators, if any? Are you the only one testifying about this problem or are others talking about this niche area? If others, how many are testifying for this Aging committee?

I’m seeking employment and one area of consideration is working in the public sector for maybe the state or county government. I would definitely like federal but as of now I have little experience and could not get in unless I knew people who could offer me jobs there.

I’m actually planning to apply to some county jobs as being an office assistant

Now and I think part time work there if I can get in is a good starting place.

When I was an intern for federal agencies, I saw firsthand the lack of accessibility on online platforms such as the Army Knowledge Online portal, intranet sites, and online training courses. This is a big issue and access issues are a barrier to employment and moving forward in employment if you are fortunate to get in.

Again, thanks, Ronza for the information and I’ll try to view some of this virtually!

Ashley

Colleagues:

The United States Senate Special Committee on Aging will be conducting a hearing regarding accessible technology for people with disabilities, older adults, and veterans on Thursday, September 21 at 10:30 a.m. Our very own Ronza Othman will be testifying on behalf of the National Federation of the Blind. Along with serving as the President of the National Federation of the Blind of Maryland, Ronza is the President of our National Association of Blind Government Employees and her testimony will address many of the accessibility issues faced by blind and low vision government workers. The hearing will take place in the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C., room SD-106, or can be viewed virtually at <https://www.aging.senate.gov/hearings/unlocking-the-virtual-front-door-ensuring-accessible-government-technology-for-people-with-disabilities-older-adults-and-veterans> Unlocking the Virtual Front Door: Ensuri... | Senate Committee On Aging. The hearing is open to the public and we want to fill the room with as many Federationists as possible. We will be providing round-trip transportation to the hearing from the Jernigan Institute. If you would like to ride in our van, please contact Jeff Kaloc at jkaloc at nfb.org <mailto:jkaloc at nfb.org> or call him at 410-659-9314, extension 2206 by noon on Tuesday, September 19. For those providing your own transportation, you should plan to arrive at the hearing room no later than 10:00 a.m.

Warm regards,

John
