[Blind-Gov] IRS csr position

Bryan,
You may want to ask if your call site has a hold timer on one of their web pages. Mine does, and I set it for 5 minutes to give myself time from when the timer goes off to when I must return to the caller. Seattle and Portland have a combined web page called Seaport. Go there and find the “New Search Me”. From there find the power tools link, hit enter on it, and you will find the timer with minutes and seconds entry fields (they’re just typical forms fields). That’s if your call site doesn’t have a hold time of its own. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Arrowing up or down works except for last Friday.
It’s a huge bummer that I can’t use control plus left or right arrow keys to move faster than single arrow keys.
The result from using right control and right arrow is it erases all lines from the cursor to the end of the page.
Also what do you use to help to return to a caller before seven mihnutes?
I have a twist kitchen timer but have to guess if two dots are closely lined up.

Well, I have to say that I am the opposite, if I depended on JAWS only to read IDRS, I would still be on my first call. Lol So what happens? Do you use your arrow keys to arrow down through the information? What happens when you try to read.

Hello,
I’m only coming up on my hiring date of two years.
Normally jaws will read the idrs screen but yesterday was the first day jaws read everything as usual except for the idrs screen.
I’d probably only complete one call a day if I had to use braille.
Thank you,
Bryan Schulz

Hello Brian,
I am a manager with the Jacksonville customer service call site, and I use jaws every day. I was a CSR on the phone before I became a manager. We do have a teams chat where we can discuss jobs related issues and other things, but I will say that the screen you mentioned often does not read well with jaws that it is better Utilized with a braille display. There are many of us that can give you some tips and tricks, if you are a braille reader, you may want to rely primarily on your braille skills when using ID RS, whereas you can rely on listening to Jaws speak to you while in other screens. I hope this helps. I see that someone else on this list also works for the service, if you need any help, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Many blessings.

Hello,
It would be interesting to know who else is a csr with the IRS.
Does a list exist for asking jaws questions for being able to perform this position better?
I have found several screens which are difficult to use and there’s no time to document issues while on a live call.
One example is has your jaws quit reading the idrs screen but will continue to read other windows screens?
Thank you,
Bryan Schulz

Hello Olivia,
My name is Cody Greiser. I have been working as a Customer Service Representative with the IRS for the last ten years. You asked about resume writing ideas when applying to a public sector job. I have included some information below.
On my resume, I have:
Contact information (first and last name, address, phone number, and email address), all listed from top to bottom.
Objective
To obtain a fulltime position with future advancement potential where my talents, skills and experience will add value to an organization
Education
University I graduated from and GPA
Year of graduation and type of degree (such as B.S. Secondary Education)
Major or Majors:
Professional Experience
List all your professional skills, i.e. customer service, communication, time management, familiarity with multicultural and diversity issues, public speaking, lesson planning and teaching, different kinds of technology you use (such as JAWS, outlook, and so on), etc. I would put these in a bulleted list, each skill with its own bullet next to it, with the list running vertically down the page, or you can put them in a table if you wish. Do not be afraid to use words like “excellent”, “proficient”, and so on, when describing your skills, such as “excellent customer service skills”.
Work Experience
List all your work experience from most recent to farthest back. Give the date you started the particular job, how long it lasted, and detail your duties and accomplishments in that position. For example, I have:
July 2014 – Present - Internal Revenue Service City, State
Contact Service Representative, 40 hours per week.
Answered taxpayer inquiries concerning their personal accounts, established payment plans, carried out payment transfers, input math error adjustments, refund traces, and advised taxpayers of procedural actions when required. Answered various tax law inquiries in areas of filing requirements, pensions and annuities, and basic tax law subjects. Also provided excellent customer service. I also work the Identity Theft Line handling inquiries on questionable accounts to verify true identity.
I am also familiar with various software applications, such as Windows 10, Acrobat Adobe, and Microsoft Edge. (I also listed several internal IRS software applications). I have also given feedback regarding internal references used in the performance of my job when these references needed to be corrected to match our organization’s procedures.
Honors, Awards, and Activities
List any awards, such as employee performance awards, scholarships, community service awards, etc. Again, I have these organized in a bulleted list running down the page.
Below this I have my references section. It is usually recommended to have 3 references.
This is how I have organized my resume. Feel free to use these examples as you will, or adjust your resume to best suit your needs. Of course, the main thing is to be certain your resume is professional looking, with correct spelling and grammar, professional formatting, etc. As a final note, on www.usajobs.gov<http://www.usajobs.gov>, I believe they may have a limit on resumes, and I believe it is 3 pages. I hope this helps. Best wishes in getting the position.

Hey all,
Is anyone on this list good at translating a private sector resume to a federal resume? Any assistance is appreciated, my friend who is copied on this email is trying to apply for the job posting Kay posted here yesterday. The application period closes on Monday. My friend is concerned because she doesn’t speak government.
Thanks all,
Tara
