Holly,
I am an O&M in Canada, and it is best to have a cane length that will give you arc coverage of at least 1" outside each side of your wheelchair, plus give you enough warning or stopping time in relation to speed & reaction time when letting go of the controls. So if you were using 50" when walking, you will need a longer mobility cane with a different type of rolling tip. It has been described as a 'steering wheel' in a past topic strand. The biggest concern is stopping time, and coverage. Hope this helps (smile).

What length of cane does someone in a wheelchair need? I used a 50
while I was walking. Does it need to be longer than that for a chair?

I use '58 though somewhere between 60 and 65 is best. I find carbon
fiber canes best for my hand strength (I have CP) but switched to
aluminum because they're a little more durable.
