[Blind-rollers] power wheelchair

Hi Lauren
I'd not just go to your primary doctor but to a rehabilitation facility and
say you need to work with therapists to get a power chair. It definitely
might take convincing because depending on the therapists many don't believe
it's possible. I was at an OT appointment Friday and they thought I was
amazing! So it's a matter of hunting for the right therapist and asking
them to write the orders and have your doctor sign off on it. If you are
working with a therapist from the get go they can also help you with
learning to start at the slowest speed.

Subject: [Blind-rollers] power wheelchair

Hi,

Can you guys tell me again what kind of wheelchair I need to ask my
insurance for and how to get them to pay for it? I need one that will work
for a plus-sized person and one that starts out very slowly. One I tried
last year went too fast even at the lowest speed.

How would I convince my dr. and insurance that a blind person could handle a
motorized chair?

Thanks,
