Hi
They may say you can't drive just be honest with them saying beforehand,
something like "I'm getting a power chair, it will be safe, I'll go slow and
maybe the first couple of times if someone wants to walk with me to watch
how safe it is they can." I had to do that when I lived in the nursing home
after my spinal cord injury is have someone with me the first few times who
believed in me and they then talked to the other staff and in a week's time
they were fine with it.
Now on the other hand when my mom who was sighted got her scooter she had
uncontrolled movements because of Parkinson's and the chair was not safe and
everyone cleared the halls when they saw her coming. She ultimately moved
to a group home in a house where she had much shorter distances to walk and
then didn't use the scooter.

Hi,
If they do try to take my chair from me, what do I do?
Thanks,
Lauren

I'll be praying that the residence transition goes well. As people see you
using it safely and with confidence they will become used to the idea. Just
listen to what is around you and go very slowly at first.

Hi,

I received the approval packet yesterday for my power chair! Yea! The
store was alerted also. So now I hope there won't be anymore snags. My
insurance only pays 80% which leaves quite a large balance but we're working
on that since I don't anywhere near have the funds.

The next hurdle will be for me to be allowed to use it in my place of
residence. That could be tricky. Thanks.
