If you can go through a wheelchair seating place and they recommend that one
then its just a waiting game for Medicare to approve it. What town do you
live in? I can do some research and see if I can find anything about who
does wheelchair seating in your area.

Hi,
I wonder how I get Medicare to pay for that kind.
Thanks,
Lauren

Hi
I have a friend with a semi electric and it goes into like an electric phase
where it isn't as hard to push when say, she's going up a hill otherwise
it's a manual chair.

Yes, you also need to check with chairs your ensureance will get you! For
example if you are using medicare, they will only purchease certain chairs.
But I found that they will rent better chairs and after a year you own the
chair. Now you have to decide which group of chair you need there are 4
groups of chairs. Group 1 is strictly manual self propelled chairs. Group 2
is semi electric and electric. Group 3 and 4 are those who are strictly 24 7
chair users and one has to be evaluated that your condiction requires you to
have this type of chair. Now once you get the prescription, you have 90 day
time line to get the chair. If you pass the 90 day up, you have to go back
with a knew prescription. Also I found out that most insureance and medicare
or medicade will not allow one to be in rehab while trying to obtain a chair
unless, it is to evaluate you for a chair. Makes a lot of sinse right!
After you get the chair you can go back to rehab. Good luck!

Hi
You really need to do some research in your area and see if you can find a
rehab place where they have a seating clinic which is composed of a team of
people like at PT and OT and other people who really know chairs so they can
do an evaluation with you and tell you what you need and help order it from
the vendor.

Hi,

I am really sorry for asking again but what type of power chair would I need
to get, if I do?

I am having much more difficulty walking. I have osteoarthritis,
fibromyalgia and venous insufficiency, all of which make it painful to walk.
I ended up in the ER due to the pain level. My nurse practicioner just says
"take tylenol." Yeah, right.

The ER dr. suggested my working on realizing that my walking days may be
about done and I might need a power chair. I'm surprised she suggested it
without panicking about how I would steer it.

Thanks,

Lauren
