Hi
Yes I totally get that. When I have crashes its because I'm thinking about
something else and not watching my cane technique or not moving my cane
across what is in front of me. That's just the way it is and I've been
using a power chair for 26 years and it still happens occasionally. The
thing I'm doing now which I never thought would be possible is carrying
things while driving my chair.
My joy stick is the goal post kind so it is shaped like a capitol T in print
with a vertical small piece sticking up on either side of the top of the T.
Consequently I can lay my wrist on the joy stick which leaves my hand free
to carry, say, a cup of coffee and use my left hand for caning.

Hi,
They set it to as low as it will go. I am better with it on Turtle speed and
the joystick set lower. The thing now is my not being very good at
multitasking. I am concentrating on the joystick and forgetting to use my
cane properly. So I will have a mobility person help me with that. I didn't
know how hard this would be. I know it's doable.
Thanks,
Lauren
Consider the flowers of a garden: though differing in kind, color, form
and shape, yet, inasmuch as they are refreshed by the waters of one spring,
revived by the breath of one wind, invigorated by the rays of one sun, this
diversity increaseth their charm, and addeth unto their beauty. ....

Hi
The sensitivity of your joy stick can be changed in the chairs programming.

Hi,
Last night, I was able to access the online portal where my medical chart is
located. I entered my commentary regarding my use of a power chair. So now
my side of the story is in my record! Yea!
Also, yesterday was my first time out in the world. One of the paratransit
drivers was very good helping me handle my chair and he had a couple
pointers which I hope to implement. The main one was starting and stopping
in small increments. so that where I am uncertain, I can just go a couple
feet or so and stop; start again, stop. Then I am less likely to go off
course or hit something. That was very helpful info. He did turns the same
way, a little at a time. He had better grasp of the motion caused by my
joystick. He said it was very sensitive but if I just do a little at a time,
I can master it.
Thanks,
Lauren
"Be generous in prosperity, and thankful in adversity. Be worthy of the
trust of thy neighbor, and look upon him with a bright and friendly face. Be
a treasure to the poor, an admonisher to the rich, an answerer to the cry of
the needy, a preserver of the sanctity of thy pledge. Be fair in thy
judgment, and guarded in thy speech. Be unjust to no man, and show all
meekness to all men. Be as a lamp unto them that walk in darkness, a joy to
the sorrowful, a sea for the thirsty, a haven for the distressed, an
upholder and defender of the victim of oppression. Let integrity and
uprightness distinguish all thine acts. Be a home for the stranger, a balm
to the suffering, a tower of strength for the fugitive. Be eyes to the
blind, and a guiding light unto the feet of the erring. Be an ornament to
the countenance of truth, a crown to the brow of fidelity, a pillar of the
temple of righteousness, a breath of life to the body of mankind, an ensign
of the hosts of justice, a luminary above the horizon of virtue, a dew to
the soil of the human heart, an ark on the ocean of knowledge, a sun in the
heaven of bounty, a gem on the diadem of wisdom, a shining light in the
firmament of thy generation, a fruit upon the tree of humility. We pray God
to protect thee from the heat of jealousy and the cold of hatred."

May God bless you and, as my cats would say:"Meow when you feel like it!"
