Hi,

The Disability Participation and Quality of Life (DPQoL) Research Lab is
conducting a research study with wheelchair (manual/power) and scooter users
to gather feedback on the needs and specifications of a fall detection
device designed specifically for wheelchair and scooter users. The fall
detection device can automatically alert emergency services and/or
significant others when a fall occurs to assist individuals who have fallen
and to decrease the amount of time a person is lying on the ground. This
type of device is important as falls have been reported to be a major
concern for wheelchair and scooter users, however no fall detection devices
have been designed specifically for wheelchair or scooter users.

This research study involves gathering feedback from wheelchair and scooter
users through an online questionnaire and an interview to help us to better
understand user needs to help us build a device that will be easy to use and
meet the needs to full time wheelchair and scooter users.

If you are interested in participating in this study you must be 60+ years
of age, a current wheelchair (manual/power) or scooter user, have used a
chair or scooter for at least 1 year, use a wheelchair (manual/power) or
scooter for at least 75% of mobility (35+ hours a week), and have
experienced at least one fall in the past three years.

The study will require approximately 90 minutes of your time and you will be
compensated $10 for participation.

If you are interested in participating this study or have any questions,
please email Dr. Laura Rice ( <mailto:ricela at illinois.edu)>
ricela at illinois.edu).

Thank you for your time and have a nice day!

Sincerely,

DPQoL Research Lab
