I agree totally with this.Using a cane and a walker was tricky I'd like to have tried a walker with forearm troughs like those that are used for arthritic patients etc.
Now using a power chair thank goodness.

I would think the walker would act as a cane in that you would feel the slope of the curb cut, you would hit objects like a cane would, you have your left and right to tell you if you are to close to something. I would think though a glove or something to protect your hands would be in order. Your elbows could be used to trail a wall or your hands. Those elbows do a lot of good if we would remember they are there to help out. The walker gives you protection from steps as the front wheels left or right should tell you. You could trail the cane ahead of you if you need more space to make decisions.

Just giving ideas to possibly help out. You could enlist a helper of a teen to help out.

I hated when people grabbed my walker, especially if they walked to fast and tried to drag me. I won't be dragged. They walk my pace, just like my guide dogs did.

Warmly,
Becky in her Joy Wheels

Hi Shane. Hope you are doing well. I really need to contact you quickly. :-) Last week, while not paying attention, I fell down a flight of stairs and broke my hip. Had surgery the following day, and now spending three weeks in a physical rehab center. The physical therapist tell me that I will be discharged using a walker. There is no way to attach a white cane to a walker, so I am now in the position of trying to figure out a technology that will allow me to know where I am and how to avoid obstacles and how to find curb cuts without a cane. I will only be using a walker for a couple of months, but expect to need one again when doing two knee replacements in the coming year or so. Would love to know where your company is in using Super Lidar two enable this type of mobility, and also what kind of response you got when you posted on this list. :-) I’m now in the position of needing you guys…
