I would highly suggest taking ideas from these message boards, using the NFB resources, ask lots of questions, ask your eye specialist...
There are organizations (online searches) that provide catalogs of numerous adaptive devices.
I learned about new devices from reading the boards and being on these email lists.  Then I go back to my son's TVI and ask if these are things that will help my son.
He uses zoom text software on the computer and he also has a Victor Stream Reader.
He couldn't live without them!
