I just received this announcement and thought it might be of interest to some parents on this list. I know nothing about this program and wonder if anyone has experience with it.

Subject: Summer camping for teens

Dear Parents of Blind Children,
I have taken your names from the NFB website in order to send you this information about an outdoor adventure in history for teens who are blind or visually impaired. The Program is called DiscoveryTrails and is coordinated by Accessible Arts and the Kansas School for the Blind.
We are currently recruiting for our two week camping trek June 6-20, 2009. In minivans and on foot we will be following the Donner Party along the California Trail from Kansas City as far as the Great Salt Desert. You can see video footage of our last Donner Party trek on our website www.discoverytrailsprogram.org
You will also find at that address the complete itinerary for our trek, background information about us and our national award-winning program, and an application form.
Please let the parents and teens in your region know of this amazing opportunity for independence, fun and historical adventure. The cost is amazingly low because the program is funded in large measure by the National Park Service.
I will be happy to answer questions and provide further information.
