[blindkid] IEPs

He was on grade level until 2nd grade and the huge jump in reading
comprehension left him with a big delay. We worked really hard this past
summer and were able to make up a lot of that delay to get him back on a
level playing field. While he has the potential to be in the higher level of
the class he's in the middle just emerging from the lower end. Math has been
our big delay that we've been working on this year. He is in the lower of
the 3 math classes and while he's made great gains in math this year he is
just below grade level. I used the summer months last year to really work
with him on making up where he ends up behind at the end of the school year
and it looks like we will be doing the same this year, but I am working
towards being able to just maintain or even make gains over the summer. Some
of his delay is his stubborn personality, but that has gotten better with
maturity and it is more low expectations now. I'm doing the best I can as a
single parent, but never feel like it's enough. Friends and family tell me
what a great job I'm doing & teachers even compliment me on following
through with things supporting his academics. While I've gone to IEPs with
goals before, I think this is the first time I'm doing research and asking
questions in preparation for. Any input for the wealth of knowledge on this
list is much appreciated. Thanks. EJ

EJ,
Is your son on grade level? If not, do you think
he has the potential to be on grade level?
