Hi Holly,
I missed question #2. Doi. My 2 kids with albinism use and LOVE the acrobat lcd. Our oldest (now going into 7th) has used the LCD version since 5th grade. Our son (now 5th) has the laptop version. He has a more difficult time with writing and reading his own handwriting, so the IEP has agreed that typing on the laptop will be key. It has absolutely changed their access to (long distance) board work curriculum. In the past they were never interested in using a "regular CCTV" so accommodations were made with large print books. They love that they can have "regular books" and use the CCTV when they feel they need it.
We compared the Onyx by Freedom Scientific, the Smart View Graduate from Humanware, the View (not sure the manufacturer) and the Acrobat LCD. None of the 3 other options came close to the sharpness/(quality?) of the camera. The Graduate was my favorite in terms of portability, but the picture trumped portability. The View was my (and kids) least favorite. It advertises it's portable, provides good close up (CCTV), but it was more difficult fit a book under the camera. (hard to explain)
The Acrobat is very easy to use, you can choose to use the controls on the actual camera head or remote control. When doing a test, we also watch T.V. in the dark and the acrobat was able to focus and provide a sharp pictures which thrilled my kids b/c they said it's difficult to see a movie or overhead at times.
Their customer service (Enhanced Vision) has been great so far. My daughter's buttons on her camera popped out (suspiciously looked like someone had messed with it) , and they exchanged with no question. I work for neither company, in fact my good friend is a sale rep for Freedom Scientific- Onyx.
If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to email or call me!SincerelyMarla

We looked at a number of other devices as well, but this student needs a number of functions in one device: the print needs to get rather big (at this point she cannot utilize lp books, as the print is too small) and a big screen monitor, she needed distant viewing for taking notes and accessing the classroom, she needed to be able to freeze frame a shot while taking notes, and most importantly she needed to be able to switch classes 6 times a day. We have used other CCTVs in our district, but they are not truly portable, and that was our biggest concern. There are other devices that allow you to save your "freezed" shots ... essentially taking a picture of what you are viewing, but again portability was our BIGGEST concern. I have found the picture quality and zoom capabilities to be truly remarkable. There are a number of other features that are wonderful. I hope this helps!
