Hi Holly,
Requirements for working with blind students are different for each
state. I would encourage you to visit www.teachblindstudents.org for
more information about teaching blind students as a career. Great
braille teachers are desperately needed, so I am very excited that you
are exploring this career option!

Thanks and good luck!

Subject: [blindkid] Braille Instructor question

Hi everyone!
I was wondering what the qualifications are to become a braille teacher.

My understanding is to become a TVI you have to first have an education
degree + teaching certificate then the TVI designation is added on by a
masters degree. Is that correct?
Is a TVI the only professional allowed to teach braille? Is there such
a thing as a certified braille instructor that is not a TVI? If so,
what is the educational background required for that?

Thanks!
Holly
