Marie,
The only thing that really going to have to be held is the stylus. And, 
if  your son Jack is still writing  print their are styliuses that are 
shaped like a pen or pencil so he wouldn't have to get used to holding 
a one of the other types of styliuses.  I'm currently learning Braille 
now as a visually impaired adult. I'm doing it because I have a strong 
family history of Glaucoma and since I'm already visually impaired the 
Glaucoma would be a secondary visual impairment.
