[blindkid] ERG questions

Doreen,

I had an ERG done myself in June at Bascom Palmer. I am with Lenora, it would be a lot for a 5 year old to take in. The entire process took about 2 1/2 hours. You start by sitting in a completely black, dark room for about an hour. This was actually hard because you don't see anything and your eyes don't adjust because there is absolutely no light. Thank goodness I was tired from the drive to Miami and slept for most of it. Then, as Lenora said, you put metal contacts on your eyes and have to look at extremely bright lights flashing and cannot blink or move--this was the hardest part for sure. Depending on how Torie's eyes interpret this light, I would guess that would determine how much it would bother her. Anyway, Max is just a year younger and I think he would have had a tough time with the test. However, it sounds like the results are more accurate if awake, so if you think she could go through it, then I'd give it a try. Maybe they adapt it for kids? I'm not sure. Let me know if you have questions about it.
