Susan,
Kiefer swim products came to National Convention several years ago to promote a
product that is helpful to blind swimmers. It is called "Adaptap". The float
sits on one of the lane marker floats and extends into the lane (one on each
side). The Adaptap is placed near the end and notifies the swimmer of their
proximity to the wall of the pool. As the swimmer nears the wall, they can feel
the float as they swim by and then can make the needed turn independently. I
believe you would need a total of four - two for each end of the pool.
I have included a link for the product:
http://www.kiefer.com/ProductSearch/QBasicSearchResults.aspx?SearchType=_QUICK_SEARCH&Keyword=adaptap&

Regards,
Kim Cunningham

Out son is a freshman in high school and is swimming on the school swim team.
Currently we are tapping him on the head or upper back [using long poles with
tennis balls on the ends] to let him know that he is passing under the flags.
This technique has been approved by the league but the coaches are wondering if
there are any other methods or devices that can cue him.
