[blindkid] braille learning as fun!

Here here.  One thing that infuriated me in grade school was not having
things in a timely manner, or not having them right in the class room.  I
mean, no, of course a gigantic thunderous braille embosser doesn't belong in 
there, but I would
have to go half way across the building sometimes to track down a new volume 
of a text book, a Franklin dictionary, some braille paper or a Braille 
writer.  Sometimes things would get "miss placed" and I would be without 
things for weeks.  Fortunately, because mom is blind and we had a lot of the 
things I needed at home I would just bring in my own talking dictionary, 
talking calculator, braille writer, etc.  I remember the class playing games 
with boards that I did not have Brailled, for which you could win prises of 
candy, homework passes or extra resess time.  When I confronted the teacher 
and the TVI in front of the class about not having a game board and not 
being able to compete, the teacher just handed me a candy bar and a homework 
pass.  I didn't want it, and the class started wining about "that's not 
fair."  I turned to them said "I agree, it's not fair, I couldn't compete 
and now they're trying to buy me off."  I threw down the candy bar and pass 
and went back to my seat.  That got the TVI's attention, and a fair measure 
of respect from my class mates.  Things got better as I got older, but in 
kindergarden and first grade, and a bit through second and third, it was 
really rough.  You bring up such a valid point.  It is not enough to have 
the books, the Braille, the technology.  It must be easily accessable to the 
student, with no delays or differences between those materials and resources 
that their peers have at their disposal.
