Joy:
There's no easy way to "mark up" a document in braille or, obviously, on the
typewriter. I learned to do much of it in my head, working from the braille
first draft and dictating it to someone word-for-word, making the changes as
I went. If no one was available, I would dictate into a tape recorder (they
were reel-to-reel back then) and then type the final copy from my dictation.
Seldom did I make a second braille draft; it was too time-consuming.
Please do not think from this that I do not value braille: I could not have
done it without braille but decided that it was more efficient to learn to
write the final paper in two iterations -- first draft and final copy. AS I
got older, I learned (like the composer J.S. Bach) to compose the whole
thing in my head and write out the final copy in one go. I dare say this
skill is virtually nonexistent now.
HTH!
Mike
