[blindkid] blindkid Digest, Vol 87, Issue 13

I just purchased it yesterday for 9.99 from Bed Bath and Beyond. It wasn't
with the other toothbrush/toothpaste displays but I found it on a display in
the front. I read comments from consumers and they varied from 5 stars
-best thing that ever happened to 1 star - would never buy. I think the 1
star rating were mostly from people that didn't put it on tile or mirror
with the suction cups but used the enclosed circular pad to stick it to the
wall. Didn't seem that it worked well that way -kept on falling down. And
some comments talked about pumping the device to start it working but there
were no direction and no "pumping' mechanism in the one that I bought, so
perhaps the older models worked in a different way and weren't as good?

But when sticking to the mirror *(at least for one day :)) it was very easy
and seems very easy to use.......

Thank you for all the fine suggestions...I'm going to try the
dispenser...Amazon.com seem to have it but I can't find it locally.
Although Walgreen website says they have it when try to contact the listed
number it's actually a D. Reade store and they don't carry it.

toothpaste directly into his mouth (he will need his own tube of paste).
Teach your child to wipe his mouth after brushing his teeth. He should also
rinse the sink, leaving the bathroom clean for others.

powder instead. It is a powder (as the name might imply, LOL) so nowhere
nearly as sticky. There are homemade "recipes" for it but it is also
commercially available from companies large and small including Colgate. At
least one brand I found with a google search also offers it with fluoride
(if that is a concern). If I'm not mistaken, tooth powders pre-date tooth
paste actually. I think they've been in use for a couple hundred years so it
isn't some crazy new idea. Might be worth a shot...

his hand from the sink edge in toward the bowl; this way, even if the cap
rolls away, it will land in the sink to be easily found. It can be difficult
for a blind or V.I. child to learn how to squirt just the right amount of
toothpaste
> > > and put it in just the right place on the brush. If this is so for
your child, try: ? Buy inexpensive toothpaste and let your child experiment
in the tub or backyard. Show him how the toothpaste can squirt or ooze,
depending on the pressure of his hand. Feel around to find where the
toothpaste is inside the tube, and squeeze it to move the paste around
inside the tube. Think of this as an early physics experiment! ? Show your
child how to squeeze a short line of toothpaste onto the end of his finger
(from the bend of his first knuckle to the tip of his finger). When he can
do this easily, he can learn to hold his fingertip next to the bristles of
the toothbrush and guide the tip toothpaste tube along the head of the
brush. ? If you have practiced and practiced, and your child just can't seem
to get the tooth paste on the brush, you may decide to try teaching this
later on. In the meantime, your child could try using toothpowder (shake a
small

toothpaste directly into his mouth (he will need his own tube of paste).

Might be worth a shot...

nearly as sticky.
