[blindkid] technology question - laptops and iPads

I agree with Denise... mostly. 

I might take slight issue with the "supplemental" comment. There are certain fields where Mac is the standard. Largely production work, including audio and video production, photography, certain portions of the printing industry, etc. I'm sure there are others, but I have worked as a Mac specialist mainly in the above fields for the last 20 years or so. In such situations, any applicant who was not Mac proficient was never considered even slightly for a job.

I understand that some of the Macintosh niches are largely visual, but some are not (specifically audio-related work). Ideally, know know your daughter's intended direction (if there is one so far) and conform that she's not headed to the small percentage areas where knowing a Mac may be a benefit or a virtual requirement.

On the iPad question, if low vision, yes. If no vision, probably not, except that you have cellular data options on iPads where a touch will be WiFi only. There are also a few apps which are iPad only.
