Thank you to all who responded to my question. The information I received will be very helpful. I am so glad that I have a resouce like this list to get some feedback. I now understand that Technology is a supplement to Braille, not a replacement. I believe the Literacy Goal is a very good goal, but like Richard mentioned, how we are supporting the goal may not be the correct thing for Ben. Also, Terri, thank you so much for the "long", but much needed information on hand placement. I noticed in Ben's progress report, the Reading Specialist states that he is reading with his left hand. Well, what happended to the right hand? When I read with him at home, it is both hands on the paper. So, this leaves more unanswered questions. My IEP meeting is today and I am ready thanks to you all. Ben has made progress in Braille reading, it has just been slow. Eric I will contact you this weekend.

Ben's school is wrong to discontinue braille teaching.  Not all kids are
fast braille learners like the undersigned.  With braille, this puts others
in a door to wonder.  Patience is a virtue.  He starts slow, and builds up
steadily.
