Eric,

wow look pretty questions lol.

I will try and answer each one.

Is she in a public or private school?

Abby is in pubic school

Are iPads used in all the grades?

The iPad are brand new they are in the three new school the district
openend in August. (so the two other elementary schools don't have ipad
for every single student) The iPads replaced teh computer labs.
How does she interface with the iPad (visually, via VoiceOver & hand
commands, or via a braille display device or BrailleNote?

All of the above. (we she doesn't have a braillenote) LOL Abby has some
remaining vision so she can see some things on the iPAD and the screen is
great to bring really close to your face and the screen is pretty school.
She can't read text and uses a braille display.

What kind of training did she & you get?

none lol I am not kidding. Abby and I have been playing with a braille
display with her at home ipad and she knows some things and we shared with
the school what we knew. Her TVI has reached out the other sources since
and is learning more.

Can she take it home?

She can't take the school iPad home. I am sure if she didn't have a home
one they would have purchased a home iPad for her. She brings the braille
display back and for from school and home.

How is she & the other kids using it?

The are using it for different programs. Different classes are using it
for different things. They use it for educational games (non
are accessible and she uses her vision which doesn't really work that good
but she likes to have the option to play them ) she has started to use it
for writing a story with her TVI and is doing a great job with that. Her
class is using an app call Raz-Kids Its a reading app. Again not
accessible. I didnt' make a big deal of it because she really needs
practice with paper books and her two handed reading.

I think it would be enlightening & very interesting for many of us if you
could share more on your daughter's iPad experience.

Abby likes having the ipad because its such a great product for a blind
student BUT she is frustrated with the inaccessible programs. I am very
concerned about iPad use.. I head our school board improved replacing the
Algebra 1 text books with iPads in the high school.
