[blindkid] Buddy program

Hi everyone,
I want to send my son Alex (blind, 11yrs) to one of the Buddy programs, but he does not want to go. He loved his experience at Project Innovation camp last summer, but he is apprehensive about spending time away from home without parents. Here is an example of opposite experience than what some other parents have shared on the listserve:).
Is anyone else planning to send their child? I thought my work will be easier if I tell him that some of the kids he met at Project Innovation may be there...
Also, if any of the more experienced parents and former students have any ideas on how to persuade him, please share!:)
