I am very excited to host the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children Family Information call this evening at 8 Eastern. I hope many of you will be able to join me. Please see the below announcement.

Is a blind child you care about getting ready to take the leap from the “safe harbor” of elementary school to the “raging sea” of middle school? Is your child with low vision struggling to find his or her place with friends or extra activities in middle school? Are you wondering what skills a blind middle schooler in your life will need to make the transition to the wider world of high school? Are you seeking information on how a high schooler in your life, who happens to be blind, can gain skills and experiences in order to work, go to college, and more?

Please join the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children for our second informational call for families of children who are blind or have low vision.

When: Thursday, February 18, 8-9 PM Eastern Time.

Call: (712) 770-4010 <tel:(712)%20770-4010>

Access Code: 869-131

Who?: Join Melissa Riccobono, the host for this call, as she asks two experts to share their knowledge with families. Michelle Chacon, a blind teacher of blind students in Colorado, will discuss the transition from elementary to middle school, helpful hints for getting middle school students who are blind or low vision involved with their peers, and the skills these students will need to master so they are ready for the move to high school. Sheila Koenig, Transition Specialist for the state of Minnesota, will discuss what families should know in order to help students transition smoothly from middle to high school, how to help blind and low vision high school students gain work experiences, and what skills these students should be working on in order to be successful in work or college.

Join us! Listen, learn, ask questions!

Can’t join us? No problem. A recording of this call will be made available so you can listen and learn when the time is right for you.

I hope many of you will be able to join our February call.

Melissa Riccobono
