Tanya Rutner, the Director of Financial Literacy for the Treasurer of the State of Ohio recently presented to our local NFB chapter regarding Ohio's STABLE account.  The Steven Beck Jr  Achieving a Better Life Experience Act of 2014.
Finally there is a way for families to put money aside for their children with disabilities. This program allows for anyone to contribute money to your or your child's account for future needs without affecting the public benefits they may be receiving such as SSI, SSDI, or Medicaid,  which require meeting a needs or resource test.  So often grandparents and  others want to give money to our kids but have not been able to make significant contributions in the past due to the restrictions. With this program an eligible individual can have up to $14,000 per year placed in their account in any size deposits after the initial $50 deposit to open the account. Ohio welcomes residents from any state to open an account and is the only state to offer a debit card for using your funds and  an online portal to help track your spending.
