The below research participant solicitation is being provided for
informational
purposes only. The National Federation of the Blind has no involvement in
this
research, but we believe that it may contribute to our research mission.

Invitation to Participate in a Research Study: We are seeking high school
students that are blind or low vision and English Learners from
Spanish speaking households to participate in this research study

Study Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to gather information about the experiences of
high school students that are
blind or low vision and English Learners. We seek to learn from their first
hand experiences. We are looking
for high school students in the Unites States that are blind or low vision
and English Learners to take part in
research looking at their experiences. They will share about their
experiences via focus groups where they
will share their experiences with prompting questions.
Who can Participate:
We ask that your home language be Spanish and that you be willing to
participate in a focus group of an
hour to two hours. Your participation is completely voluntary, and you may
withdrawal at any time.
To take part in this study, participants must:
 Be current high school students
 Have at any time in their education received IEP services for blindness
or low vision, or
had a 504 plan
 Have at some point in their education been identified as an English
Learner
 Their home language must be Spanish

What will participation include:
Participation in this study consists of a one-to-two-hour focus group. The
focus group will be conducted via
Zoom. Students will have the option of participating in an English or
Spanish focus group, whichever they
feel most comfortable in. The Consent form will provide you with detailed
information on what to expect if
you do choose to participate.
Consent and confidentiality:
Participation in this study is completely voluntary. The parent/guardian
will complete a consent form and
the participant will complete an assent form. There are no direct benefits
to participate in this study. All
information gathered during all steps of the study will remain confidential
and no student identifiable
information will be shared. See the consent form for additional information
on risks.
Benefits of participating:
By sharing your knowledge, you will contribute to knowledge in the field of
blindness and English Learners.

Potential harm of participation:
While there is no harm from this study, there exists of the possibility
that participants will share
information that cause them distress. Participants can decline to take part
in the study at any time.
