Artist pencils come in a standard range between 9H being the very hardest, through 2H being the softest of the H or hard pencil range, then it goes HB which is the equivelent of a #2 pencil. Then you start at 2B and go up to 9B in the B range or soft range. 9 is the softest of all. There are also other systems and special pencils out there but I don't think you will run into them. </div><div style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); ">The best place to buy just what you need without having to buy a whole set is at an art supply store. I am needing help locating writing pencils for my nephew that is legally blind. I am hearing about #1 pencils, and now #8B Pencils. What works best and where do I locate them? He is a student in the 2nd grade.<br>
